James Sun is Managing Director and Responsible Officer of Charles Schwab, Hong Kong, Ltd, overseeing Schwab’s business in Asia. James joined Charles Schwab & Co Inc in New York in 1998, before relocating to Hong Kong in 2004. He is responsible for overseeing Schwab’s business in Hong Kong and other key markets including China, Taiwan, and Singapore.
During his tenure with Charles Schwab in New York, James managed the East Coast business development, developing ethnic Chinese client base in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
In 2005, James worked at HSBC Private Bank as Senior Vice President, responsible for establishing HSBC’s private banking presence in China before rejoining Schwab as Managing Director.
As Chairman of the Chamber, James led delegation of senior AmCham leaders for the annual Washington DC Doorknock in June of 2012 and had substantial discussion with key government officials from various departments, Congressional staffers, and major think tanks.
James re-instated the annual China Conference hosting top business leaders in the high-level discussion regarding the status of China’s economic reform, and the significant role of Hong Kong in China’s 12th Five-Year Plan.
In his previous role as Vice Chairman in 2011, James led the annual Beijing Doorknock to interact with senior government officials from various Chinese ministries to reinforce Hong Kong as a two-way gateway into and out of China. He also had extensive board involvement and provided his keen insights on Hong Kong and China related issues.
James also served on the Board of Directors for Chinese Finance, Investment & Business Society, and was a member of the US Financial Planning Association. He has appeared in multiple media outlets and has been a guest speaker on Asia-related topics at Columbia University and New York University.
