The global economy is increasingly driven by the dynamic markets of Asia, particularly the Chinese mainland. Hong Kong's special relationship with both the mainland and the United Kingdom, and its status as Asia's international trade and financial centre, makes it the preferred platform for British companies looking to tap new business opportunities in the region.
To help UK businesses realise those opportunities, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council organised a major Hong Kong promotion, Think Asia, Think Hong Kong, in London during September 2011. More than 50 Hong Kong partners and local British organisations took part in the week-long event.
"Think Asia, Think Hong Kong" featured a main symposium in London on 13 September, as well as a range of seminars from 13 to 15 September in London, Leeds and Edinburgh. These seminars were led by high-profile speakers from Hong Kong and the UK. Corporate leaders, small and medium-sized enterprises, services providers, economists and academics joined these events to discuss developments, trends and new business opportunities. Alongside the main programme, selected Hong Kong films were screened from 12 – 16 September. The Hong Kong Tourism Board also organised a Hong Kong street carnival from 12 – 18 September and food-and-wine promotion from 12 – 25 September in London.
