Barry Macdonald is a Chartered Accountant (Fellow) and a partner at PwC Canada in their Vancouver office. Barry has over 30 years experience advising on international tax and business structures.
From 1990 to 1997, Barry practiced in the firm’s office in Hong Kong and was their only partner born and raised in North America.
During his time in Hong Kong, Barry was Chairman and president of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce of Hong Kong, the largest Canadian Chamber of Commerce outside Canada. He was also a founding governor of the Canadian International School of Hong Kong and a member of the Hong Kong Chief Secretary’s International Business Advisory Committee. Barry served on the Canada China Business Council’s Hong Kong Advisory Committee.
Barry is immediate past Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide. This Federation is comprised of over 11,000 members in 25 countries focusing on doing business in Hong Kong and China. He travels to Hong Kong and China twice a year representing the Federation and, while Chairman, led five delegations to different provinces in China. Barry is also past National Chair of the Hong Kong Canada Business Association (1,400 members).
Over the years, Barry has presented at business seminars in ten countries.
Further, Barry is 1st Vice Chair of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC and will be its 2015/16 Chair.
In 2005, the ICABC awarded Barry a Fellowship for distinguished service to the profession and community. Barry qualified as a Hong Kong Certified Public Accountant in 1993.
